Mountain Flying Bible
by Sparky Imeson
"If you ain't a mountain pilot, you ain't a real pilot. Flying the mountains requires knowledge and skill. The knowledge is imparted in this book"
The folks in Leadville, CO (9952') give certificates to anyone who successfully lands at their airport. (I always thought you should get it once you've successfully taken off.) I have two; one in my RV-6 and another in an ultralight. Coronado Airport, (now closed) in Albuquerque, NM at a mere 5200', was notorious for 2-3 fatal density altitude takeoff accidents each year. Obviously there is something more to flying the high country than many flat landers believe.
Mountain Flying Bible is the first step towards solving that problem. In this updated edition, Sparky Imeson will not just brief you, but thoroughly explain the conditions and problems that may be encountered at high altitudes in close proximity to the ground. He will then explain, step-by-step, in plain English the rules of thumb and procedures used by experienced mountain and bush pilots to determine go - no go conditions based on the terrain, the weather, your airplane's performance and your own skills and experience.
Mountain Flying Bible is in-depth, complete, and highly illustrated. Whether your mountain flying takes you through the 14,000' peaks of Colorado, or the rolling hills of the Ozarks, one thing is for sure: It will make you a better pilot. I've been flying the high mountains for over 12 years. Even still, on the first page, I learned something new.
